Photo sharing

Ever since I got my new digital camera I start looking for a good photo sharing web site. I do have about 7000 pictures taken in the course of 5-6 years on my computer , but most of them are not big in size nor in resolution. Now the photos I take are commonly over 1 MB in size – and finding a good site that allows full size sharing can be a challenging task. I have to admit that I do not like photobucket for variety of reasons – not enough features , limited uploads ..etc. I used to have an account there , but found myself using it less and less.

For quick posts and staff I have been using ImageShack.us and there did not have that less then 1.5 MB limit – I would have liked them even more. Still they have done some major improvements – but somehow still seem to lack that community feel. Imageshack.us is perfect for blogs and most images on mine are hosted there.

Flickr is nice – I have been using it for a while now – even in this blog as you may have noticed .  However the 100 MB monthly limit is hard to bear . Getting a Pro account there would be nice – but since I do not have credit card – and their payments options are very limited unless someone makes me a gift I will be not be able to get a pro account there. Then I still like it so I guess will be using it – even in its free version.

Zooomr is a whole different thing . I have read about it – and wanted to get an account there , but there has been an update process there and the site was not working for a while. I kept watching what is going on there – and today found out that the new version of Zooomr Mark III is launched . Zooomr has all the features Flickr does – but does not have limits neither on the file size nor on the mouthy bandwidth – which make it now my favorite image hosting site able to do everything I could ever want . It has a very nice set of features – which I am yet to explore. In fact I am considering contributing to Zooomr – in the near future.

I’ve been in the same boat. I feel like I’ve tried every site out there. Pixamo was by far my favorite. It has no upload limit, lets you upload original images, and gives you 2 gigs of free storage. It also lets you import photos along with their tags from other sites, so you can keep everything in one place, and the uploader is really fast. I gave Zooomr a shot around the same time I tried Pixamo but hesitated to upload many photos, because of the problems with Mark III. Pixamo has been really reliable.

I just checked out Pixamo. Seems to have a Java uploader. Does that cut down upload time alot?
