Straalen McCallum

Hello there fellow readers, let me introduce myself. My name is Tony. I am a fellow blogger and acquaintance of SkyKid, and he has been so kind as to include me in the great privilige of being on and posting in his blog. I hope that what I write can be something all of you can enjoy, and I am open to whatever comments you have!

Straalen McCallumStraalen McCallum, a 10 year old Australian boy and rather unkown singer in some cases, has a voice that to me is nothing short of grand. Starting out when he was just about 5 years old and singing “Blood, Sweat, and Tears” around the house, his parents urged him to carry on and develop his musical talent. Citing David Clayton Thomas as his “hero”, he continued to sing in school and at the request of his teachers at school assemblies.

Loving to sing anything, but especially “anything like cool jazz and soul,” he followed through with the admonition of his supportive parents and took lessons from a woman he calls “the world’s best singer,” Venetta Fields.

He sees himself as the next Robbie Williams, and his advice to all those who aspire to become singing superstars is to “know exactly what it is you really want and do everything you can to make it happen.”

Here is a wonderful cover of the song “Wonderful World” that he performed at an event for the ZigZag foundation, an organization that raises funds to help support ill and underprivileged children, and of whom Straalen is an ambassador of.

For a fuller interview, please visit my music blog at http://www.asightuntomysoul.blogspot.com/

I am very impressed with this wonderful young man, and see a bright future for him. What are your thoughts?

You can find him and another video entitled “Beyond the Sea” on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/user/goldstray1

  • Oh, what a nice new introduction ! Never heard of him. But somehow his music goes right into my ear… his voice is so smooth, the music soft.

I did not want to say that he somehow reminds me of Bobby Darin indeed, e.g. the movie with Kevin Spacey. Just referring to the overall style and mood of the music. But then I clicked on the link – well, fitted my thoughts, hehe ;-)

A very nice introduction, I hope that there will be more to hear and see from him – please keep us informed !

    Greetings,

    Ikarus

I would like to thank Tony for his willingness to publish a guest article in my blog and the wonderful job he did. I hope that this would be the first of many to come – and would like to encourage you who read his article to leave a comment to you can show him your support – to him as an author and to Straalen as a musician. I discovered him thanks to Tony as well – and am really enjoying listening to his music.

I like the white, athletic ankle socks with his tuxedo (0:35) – a classy touch! ;) A very nice projection anyway. He could use some classical training, but if he prefers pop or rock music it won't matter as much.

Some boys are singers and other go way beyond that. Straalen is a real entertainer and a voice that is second to none. I remember when Billy Gilman sang his first song and I thought what a great vocal range. I believe that Straalen will do as well or better in an industry that cries for perfect pitch trebles. His expressionism is maximized by his charm and he can capture an audience and draw them in with winning ability. I believe that this is a true star in the making!
