Troye Sivan – For Them

Submitted by skykid on April 7, 2009 – 8:06 amView Comments

More than a year ago Troye Sivan was a new star on the horizon .Today many people own his CD -- he has gained the recognition he truly deserves. Recently he released a new song called For them devoted to the homeless children living on the streets around the world.  This song quickly become a favorite of mine -- I would like to share it with you.

What do you think of it ?

Its obviously very well directed -- touching and Troye`s performance is simply amazing.

You can read my original post about Troye published at the SkyKid.com one year ago.

Feel free to check my review of the documentary Children Underground which realistically portrays the harh reality in which many homeless kids in Romania are forced to live .

Troye has a very nice voice and is, indeed, quite talented, but I find the lyrics of this song mawkish and amateur. I know Troye didn’t write them and that it’s “for a cause,” but that doesn’t make it any better.

On my part I like the lyrics – or the manner in which Troye sings them . I guess he has some vocal coaching for this song . The song reminds me “Tell me why” performed by Declan Galbraith

    Yesterday I heard the news
That 4 million Russian children are homeless
They've been abandoned by the people they trust
Now their cold and lonely lives are hopeless

Children of the world are dying
People say they care; they're lying
If this life was theirs, they'd be crying
Is it really fair we're not trying

    Yesterday I heard the news
That 20 million Asian children are homeless
They've been abandoned by the people they love
They've been beaten down so hard they can't get up

Children of the world are dying
People say they care; they're lying
If this life was theirs, they'd be crying
    Is it really fair

Children of the world (are dying)
People say they care, well they're lying
If this life was theirs, they'd be crying
Is it really fair we're not trying

    Life is beautiful for some
    Life is beautiful for us
    Life isn't beautiful for them
Maybe life can be beautiful again for them

The lyrics of this song is mawkish and amatuer. That's not the song problem, that your problem.

I personally like the lyrics of Troye Sivan in the song For Them. Truth is I have seen much more bizarre lyrics such as the one of the winners of this year`s junior euro vision contest .

  • Andres says:

I agree his great singer and the lyrics of the song reflect the cruel reality of many children around the world a reality that i hope someday changes. So if you can, and I'm sure, that if you are reading this you can,.. find an organization to help and become a part of the change.

    hi
i wrote the song, and i dont mind if you think the lyrics are mawkish and amateur, everyone has a right to an opinion.

all i can say is that i wrote them over 4 weeks, while watching videos of these homeless,
and the lyrics reflect only the truth. `i did not want them to be clever or flowery ..

Thank you. I did say “I find the lyrics…” meaning it was **my opinion** only. You have likely written other songs that I would enjoy more. I give you credit for having Troye Sivan perform the piece (or if he chose the piece from you… whichever it was). He is a talented young man who can express sincerity through his voice. It sounds like that was a goal of yours.
