HostIcan affiliate program – a pure scam

HostIcan - think twice

HostIcan - think twice !

This is more or less a warning post as I would like to save you the unpleasant experience I had with HostICan affiliate program.  About two month ago I recommend them as a hosting solution to a friend and he decided to give them a try. Following an affiliate link I have provided for him he purchased 1 year worth of hosting utilizing a coupon code to get a discount just as I did when I make my own purchase from them. For the remaining 2 months the affiliate commission was put in hold until one day ( yesterday ) they informed me that the commission has been paid to another affiliate because the coupon my referee used seems to be his.  Provided that the person I recommend their services to – looked for their coupon in the Retailmenot web site – I see the incident as a scam tactic of HostIcan to lure more people into their affiliate program without fulfilling their promises .

Following this unsatisfactory experience I made a decision not to participate in their program and inform as many people as possible about the scam scheme . This blog has an average of 800 visits per day so if you are reading this I have already achieved some success.

Note : For the time being I am satisfied with the hosting services they provide. But my opinion for their affiliate program is that it is poorly designed which is why I cased my participation in it.

Just found that that the HostIcan BBB license has been revoked – no wonder why ….

“BBB accredited businesses have agreed to live up to our Principles for Trust.”

  • If the coupon was not yours, but one found on another Web site, it makes perfect sense to me that your commission was credited to someone else. That happens occasionally.

I’ve been working with HostICan for 16 months now. I have a dedicated server with them that that delivers extraordinary performance.

They have never, ever behaved in anything less than a thoroughly professional fashion and they are a credit to the industry.

    Peace,

I am glad that your experience with HostICan is 100 % positive – but can not state that for myself as well. I do not agree with you that it makes sense my commission to be paid to someone else – especially after in this case I recommended their services face – to – face therefore the new client is clearly my lead. May be they would have to go trough their affiliate policy to avoid answers such as ” That happens occasionally.”

A possible scenario is that the company itself distributed the coupons and fine tuned their policy to avoid paying affiliate commissions.

I am including a screen shot from which is obvious that the commission was earned ( even if not paid as a result of my actions as their affiliate ) :

they are thieves .. they only know how to steal your money

yesterday they told that my account was cloased due to illegal words on my account .. however I didn’t receive neither the cPanel nor the domain they promised to begin with .. if they are saying that I used illegal words .. I’m telling them that I didn’t even used legal words because I had nothing .. It’s been like donating to them from the start .. it seems as if they are angry why i used the coupon .. and they are not going to return my money.. if there is a way to press charges against them please tell me

note : I didn’t break the rule of caveat emptor because I had nothing .

  • skykid says:

I am not familiar with the legal system and can not offer an advice of how to press charges …however its important that you spoke of it so at least people will know what they have to deal with . That`s the sole reason I wrote the post above – they may have cheated me , but will probably loose the possibility to do that to the 109 people who went trough this post since it was published yesterday

Gene shutup, they are a horrible company that run around ripping people off, Every google'd negative review on them you're there making shit up trying to cover for your horrible company.

I'm going to chase you guys up till you refund me the server costs i'm owed (That's what i get for paying 3 months up front eh?), you guys didn't respond to my cancellation form at all and only responded to me when i reported you to the BBB, bloody horrible company.

Rob – Another ripped off customer of hostican.

Not only do they scam you as affiliate – they scam customers even more. See my blog post to learn how they took my $519.70 and refuse to refund it according to their policy:

I'm not locked in legal battle with them and can only hope I will help other people avoid their “services”

I read the posts on hosttospotter.com. Seems everything was resolved with HostICan, so good to see that. Sorry you had to go through that though. Sometimes when a company is a certain size, things get lost in translation.
