Billy Elliot the Musical: Tracking the Billys

Billy Elliot the Musical: Tracking the Billys United States Michael Dameski Billy Elliot the Musical Billy Elliot Like some of the other data associated with Billy Elliot the Musical, the tracking of which boy has portrayed Billy at any given performance is information in danger of being lost forever if it’s not recorded properly.  So again, here at theskykid.com, we are endeavoring to capture that information so it’s always available to posterity.

Beginning on October 1, 2008, with the first preview performance of Billy Elliot the Musical on Broadway, this article provides a listing of the actors who portrayed Billy for each performance —  for all active productions of the musical, by performance date.  The charts,  below, are formatted by month.

London data prior to January, 2009 is not available in any place on the internet that this writer has been able to discover and, even for the dates shown on the charts below, the reader will note many blank spaces next to London performance dates.  Since the show began in 2005, the data for the West End production has been supplied solely by Billy Elliot forum members who have been in attendance at a performance and have graciously taken the time to note, on one of the forums, who had performed at the show they’d just seen.  Obviously, that can be a “hit or miss” approach, as there are some shows the forum regulars didn’t attend or, if they did attend, they didn’t notate in writing as to who performed.

Readers will note that, beginning with the summer of 2010, London data (and indeed data from all the productions) has far fewer gaps due to the diligence of forum members who have faithfully supplied the information of which Billy performed at each venue.

Note: The Billys are listed on the charts by first name only.  A complete list of the Billys is located here.

Note: To access each month’s listings, click on the thumbnail of the month you desire.  When you’ve finished with a chart, click anywhere on the chart (or on the “X”) and you’ll be returned to this article.

Note Well: 29-Mar-2011: Thanks to the efforts of Tim (KiwiT on the BE Forums), we have recently received performance information for the Melbourne production of BETM.  Therefore the charts for December, 2008 through June, 2009 have been updated. Counts for the three boys who have played Billy, both in Melbourne and in the United States (Michael Dameski, Dayton Tavares and Daniel Russell) have also been updated to include the Melbourne performances.

      Helen,

Schedules of when the Billys perform are internal to them only and are not made public. This is because they can change at the last minute for a variety of reasons. In the early days of the show in London, they actually did publicize the schedules for a short time and found they had a bunch of complaints from patrons who had purchased tickets specifically to see one particular Billy and then there was a last minute change and another Billy was on for that performance.

Therefore, I can’t tell you specifically when Alex will be on. I can tell you he’s on tonight (Tuesday) and that Jacob Clemente is off this week, so there is only a 3 Billy rotation. If you go Billy Elliot the Forum (http://www.billyelliottheforum.me.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=2396&start=20) and watch how the beginning of the week plays out for the rotation, you might be able to figure out the weekend. But, again, no guarantees.

Hopefully, this has been somewhat helpful.

    • WOW this is just wonderful…I am sure it took you a while do to, and then you have to maintain and up-date it. Its just awesome. Thanks for doing it.
On a side note who has played Billy longer, Is it still Trent Kowalik?

      • Porschesrule says:

Thanks so much for your generous comments, Oliver. In answer to your question, in terms of total performances as Billy, Trent Kowalik is the all time leader of the current 51 boys who have played the role. He had 227 performances in the title role, between London and Broadway.

Porschesrule never ceases to amaze me with his enthusiasm of Billy Elliot the musical. As I recently read in a tweet of yours -- if anyone knows what`s going on across the world -- BETM related that is him. I am very fortunate to have him on board at theskykid.com -- it really is awesome.
